Summary
SnapPhonics collects information to provide and improve the Service. We do not sell your personal data. We use Supabase (database), Stripe (payments), AWS Polly (text-to-speech), and Google Cloud Vision (OCR). Teachers can see documents shared in their classroom. Support staff may access documents only to investigate reported issues.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account we collect your email address and a hashed password. You may optionally provide a display name. If you sign up via a social login provider we receive a token and email address from that provider.
User Content
We store the documents, text, and other content you create or upload in the Service ("User Content") on servers managed by Supabase, Inc. in the United States. We use this content solely to provide the Service features you request.
Usage Data
We automatically collect information about how you use the Service, including pages visited, features used, error logs, and device/browser type. This data is used to operate, maintain, and improve the Service.
Payment Information
If you purchase a paid subscription, payment is processed by Stripe, Inc. We do not store your full payment card details on our servers. Stripe's privacy practices are described at stripe.com/privacy.
Cookies and Tracking
We use cookies and similar technologies to maintain your session, remember your preferences, and analyze Service usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings, though some features may not function without them.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
- Process payments and manage your subscription.
- Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset, subscription receipts).
- Respond to support requests and investigate reported issues.
- Analyze usage patterns to improve the Service.
- Comply with legal obligations.
3. Access to Your Documents
Important disclosure — who can see your documents
- Support staff: SnapPhonics support staff may access your documents solely to investigate reported issues and provide customer support.
- Teachers: Teachers may view documents created by students enrolled in their class.
- Academy administrators: Academy administrators may view documents created by teachers and students within their academy.
We do not access your documents for any purpose other than those described above. Automated systems (such as OCR and text-to-speech processing) operate on your content as part of Service features you explicitly invoke.
4. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate SnapPhonics:
- Supabase, Inc. — database and authentication hosting. Data is stored in the United States.
- Stripe, Inc. — payment processing.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS Polly) — text-to-speech audio generation. Text you submit for playback is transmitted to AWS and subject to AWS's privacy policy.
- Google Cloud Vision — optical character recognition (OCR) for uploaded images and PDFs. Documents you upload for OCR are transmitted to Google and subject to Google's privacy policy.
- Vercel, Inc. — website and application hosting.
These service providers are authorized to use your information only as necessary to provide services to us and are bound by confidentiality obligations.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. We may share information:
- With the third-party service providers listed above, as necessary to provide the Service.
- In response to a valid legal process (subpoena, court order, or similar) or to protect the rights, property, or safety of SnapPhonics, our users, or the public.
- In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of all or substantially all of our assets, with appropriate notice.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
The Service is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you are a teacher using the Service with students under 13, you are responsible for obtaining any required parental consents and for compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, where applicable, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will delete it promptly. Contact us at hello@snapphonics.com if you have concerns.
7. FERPA
To the extent SnapPhonics stores student education records on behalf of a school or district, SnapPhonics acts as a "school official" with a "legitimate educational interest" as those terms are used under FERPA, 20 U.S.C. § 1232g, and will use such records only for the purposes for which the school disclosed them.
8. Data Retention
We retain your account information and User Content for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes or fraud prevention).
9. Security
We use industry-standard safeguards to protect your information, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
10. Your Rights and Choices
You may access, update, or delete your account information at any time from your account settings. You may request a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or request that we delete it, by contacting hello@snapphonics.com. We will respond within 30 days.

11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
